Computer question regarding bro's computer

Okay, so my brother has an eMachines computer with Vista and he was trying to print a document when all of a sudden, his computer froze. He restarted and now whenever the computer boots up, he gets a quick flash of the BIOS screen along with some F2 and F10 options and then complete black. He can't access Windows.

Any ideas?

He can't access that Safe Mode menu by holding F8.

I found this program called Xtranormal State that lets me put together my own movies. The free version was very limited and contained only two character models (unless I'm missing something).

After finding out how limited the program was, I figured I might as well put SOMETHING together, so I looked around for some simple, 2-person dialog. Here's what I ended up with...

Over at Kotaku.com, I had looked at an article about the summons in Final Fantasy XIII and how they could turn into VEHICLES. Why, the only thing cooler than that would be to have the summons turning into trendy outfits your characters can wear.

Is this becoming Digimon season 4 now? Wait, are there going to be powerup cards like from season 3? How did we go from masterpieces like Final Fantasy IV, VI, and IX to THIS?

Go back to riding Chocobos and flying ships with masts and sails!

@DrZaius: Yeah sorry, but some of us got tired of flying sail ships, and Chocobos for nearly 20 straight years. Nostalgia is a nice thing to have but eventually the term "beating a dead horse" comes to mind.

Oh and by the way I'm with you on 4 and 6 but 9 is the furthest FF from a masterpiece.

@DrZaius: Yeah, I'd really consider 9 a classic even for just the art style. It made everyone distinct and emotive. I'm not a big fan of the past character designs since then, specifically the more "realistic" ones (well, MAYBE except for 10). Everyone has the same clean features, they all look like models; and for some reason, they all look the same to me because of that.

@Ryan_the_D: It's not beating a dead horse. It's playing with something that's fun. And what they've done now is like replacing Coke with New Coke back in 1985. That sucked big time.

I figured someone wouldn't like my mention of FFIX but the gameplay is close enough to FFIV and FFVI so I'm sticking with it.

@Rebochan: I never bitch about the FF games being the same. FFIV, V, and VI are in no way the same. They're SIMILAR, sure, but not the same. I even enjoy it when they do something unique, like in FFVIII. But now it's just not even Final Fantasy anymore. It's just trash.

@DrZaius: Yes exactly. Too each their own. Some people think these character designs are pretty damn good looking. Some people dont think summons turning into vehicles are gimmicky at all. And judging by how many people are still hyped about this game, I should stop saying some and start saying MOST.

Face it buddy, your one of the few FF hardcore fans that doesn't like the way this series has gone. Unfortunately for you, and the rest that share your opinion, MOST people have enjoyed the modern FF's and prefer seeing things get a fresh new look and idea. And since their dollars mean more then the hardcore crowd, it is them that Square will continue aiming to please.

Which you know what, hey thats cool and all. I feel the same way about Mario ever since it went 3D. But I'm the minority and all I got is the occasional Super Paper Mario. But I don't trash the new Mario games, I recognize that they are great games, but they no longer appeal to me.

But when you start saying things like "It's not FF anymore, it's garbage", or "Gimmicky" "Ugly character designs" and refuse to admit that although they dont appeal to you, they are more liked then they aren't you just start looking like a hater.

@Ryan_the_D: Hey, when I pick up a Final Fantasy game, I expect to play Final Fantasy. The newest games are so far away from the original Final Fantasy series, much more than the PS titles, it's like I'm suddenly spending my money reserved for Final Fantasy on an entirely new series altogether. I started noticing it with FFX, then got sick entirely with FFX-2. I couldn't even play FFXI. And FFXII... isn't even friggin' turn-based. Now FFXIII... reminds me of how ridiculous FFX-2 was and I don't want to go down that road again.

And the new Mario games are just Mario in 3D. They're still fundamentally the same. Which is why I don't trash FFVII and FFVIII, which still retain enough of their FF roots to be good games in the series.

I'm not a hater. I'm just not blind to the efforts of SquareEnix in trying to mainstream FF so much that it's just no longer FF anymore. They'd rather not change the name of the series because they want to milk the name for what it's worth but I know that at heart, the series is just dead now.

@Duo Maxwell: FFXIII is following the same trend of ugly character design that started with FFVII. Now, it wasn't at its worst at that time. The worst offenders are FFX and FFX-2 (especially FFX-2). Tidus with his patchwork outfit and Lulu with her belts... and I don't even want to mention FFX-2 in any amount of detail because then I might start remembering its horrific music. But I suppose this is all to be expected considering FF isn't the first series to have horrible character designs in later sequels. Castlevania's Simon Belmont eventually became a transvestite. Street Fighter started getting characters like Rufus and C. Viper, who look like they came from another dimension. And even Soulcalibur's character designs have suffered to some degree. It's as if sequelitis has affected these games specifically in the area of character design.

@DrZaius: And the reason why no one is listening to you on this is because your dealing in absolutes. You keep saying that FF has gone down hill since X, when their are plenty of people (who have been playing FF since the beginning) who count X as their favorite of the series. You keep calling them Ugly designs like its a fact, when it is painfully obvious, it is only an opinion shared by very few.

What your refusing to admit is while these specifically don't appeal to you as a gamer anymore, is that they still are good. Sorry but that drives me crazy. To me Mario isnt the same anymore, I mean come on Mario Sunshine, walking around with a water blaster? Or Galaxy, turning into a bee, solid ice, or metal while jumping around to actual worlds? Why dont we just give him a millenium falcon and call a spade a spade? I think Mario didn't only just jump the shark, he fished it out of the water and served it up for dinner.

But I know, that those Mario's are loved by a lot of people, and that they certainly are not in any way bad games.

Every FF game you just mentioned you did not like (X, X-2, XI, XII) were given good reviews by critics, and were also received very well by the majority of the public, garnering fantastic sales and fan love. Sure there are some hardcore people who think it's not FF anymore, but who are you to decide what is or isn't FF?

@Ryan_the_D: Sorry if I left out "Oh, by the way, this is all in my opinion," in my previous posts.

Mario turning into a bee isn't any good? Would you rather he turn into a tanooki and turn to STONE instead? As if Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Bros. 3 are all that different in terms of powerups. And heaven forbid he enters other worlds since the result is the same as him entering another land like in SMB3.

If Mario truly jumped the shark, he at least had the balls to go back to his roots with New Super Mario Bros. And his games are still platformers. Final Fantasy hasn't done that. SquareEnix just releases remakes and their new games aren't even turn-based RPGs anymore. The exception being FFIV: The After Years, which is just a new story with rehashed graphics and a huge price tag (almost 40 bucks if you buy the whole thing). But that's a rant for another day...

And I stopped listening to critics when I saw the ridiculous score FFX-2 got. I can forgive FFX but FFX-2 was a prank everyone fell for. At least when I fell for it, I only paid 20 bucks.

@DrZaius: See and that last paragraph right their just shows that your simply being far too opinionated for your own good. X-2 was a good game that you simply did not like. I enjoyed X-2, and so did many other people. Calling it a prank is simply your attempt to justify why you don't like something that other people do. Which you have no need to. Heck, I think thought Bioshock was garbage, but I know that is simply because no piece of that game appealed to me personally, not because it was a 'prank'.

As for Mario and nintendo vs. square, sorry I just felt that Mario was a 2D platformer and when it went 3D they just tried to add any rediculous concept they could find and hoped it stuck. And as for New Super Mario Bros, it might as well just be a remake of some of the old Mario's just like the FF remakes of the old ones. Too me there is barely any difference between it and The After Years but graphics. In my opinion the only good Mario lately is the Paper Mario series, but that is just me.

And they they have tried to do turn based RPG's at Square, and at many other big time RPG companies. They all failed, wither it be critically, or financially. Last Remnant, Star Ocean (not turn based but keeps with the traditional mold the series created), Lost Oddyssey, Blue Dragon, Nostalgia. All these games got hit by critics and gamers alike for being too traditional. And all of them were met with luke warm sales.

JRPG's have had to change to get attention, and MOST people are very glad they are.

@Ryan_the_D: I played every single square inch of Final Fantasy X-2. If I say it sucks, it's because it friggin' sucked, not because I'm opinionated. If I was just opinionated, I wouldn't have even given the game a chance. I would've stopped playing the moment I heard the music, which is probably the worst thing in the game. Not having Nobuo Uematsu is one thing... but replacing him with this trashy music is just a slap to the face... to my ears.

If you're actually saying that New Super Mario Bros. is no different than FFIV: The After Years (aside from graphics), then that shows how shallow your dissection of a game truly is. You're completely ignoring the physics engine they had to implement into the new Mario game, plus all the music made specifically for this game, while FFIV: TAY's music is mostly reused (if not all reused). The levels are all new in NSMB while FFIV: TAY uses levels taken from FFIV. And the changes made to the gameplay in FFIV: TAY were pretty minor.

Saying turn-based RPGs that have been released recently have failed is just a laughable comment and I hope you retract that before you make a bigger fool of yourself. Lost Odyssey has done well (just not on the level of Final Fantasy). The Final Fantasy handheld titles have done well. And Dragon Quest continues to do well, if not in the US (which it has) then definitely in Japan, where everyone and their grandmothers have TWO copies of each Dragon Quest game. Okay, that's an exaggeration but it was used to make a point... Dragon Quest is super popular in Japan.

Whatever, you can dislike Bioshock and the 3D Super Mario games all you want. There are plenty of trendy/trashy games out there if that is your preference. But the games that will leave a lasting impression are the Bioshocks and Super Mario 64's.

Am I so wrong here?

Huh... silly ads.

"Imagine no religion." What am I supposed to be imagining? Peace on earth? How about "Imagine no humans?" Then there would finally be peace... until a meteor hits or something. Or maybe they could try "Imagine no disagreements." Blaming religion for any of society's ills seems about as ridiculous as blaming violent video games. Either case does not tackle the actual root of the problem and acts as a short cut instead.

"There's Probably No God...Now Stop Worrying and Enjoy Your Life." Now that's just a bummer. I'd hate to see this on the bus. It's like reading an ad that says "Yeah, you're wrong! Nya nya!" And there's no way to argue back. Specifically, I'd say "Just because I'm religious doesn't mean I'm a worrywart or I'm not enjoying my life."

"Why believe in a God? Just be good for goodness' sake." Because I FEEL like it! *PUNCH* Nah, I wouldn't actually punch...

One individual, not an ad, says, "I'm proud to be an American [...] I'm a good person. I pay taxes, abide by the law, and I'm good to my family. I help people. I believe hands that help are better than hands that pray." You know what I think is even better? Hands that help AND pray. Helping AND praying... is that a really difficult concept to grasp? It's not like a person who prays is entirely helpless. It's not like they physically cannot help more than those who do not pray because they take regular breaks to pray.

Whatever... silly ads are silly.

DO NOT WATCH TRANSFORMERS 2.

As if the first movie wasn't crappy enough to show people that any sequel, especially if directed by Michael Bay again, would be complete and utter trash. Now, in this link are 8 reasons (with spoilers) on why you should avoid watching the movie.

The writer of this article goes on at one point about the legalization of pot for some reason or another... just read past that. It's the use of pot to try and be "funny" in the movie that's the real problem. Just like the original movie used jokes about urine and masturbation to be "funny."

I still don't know if any Transformers in this movie "lubricate" on anyone but the stuff in this movie that some Transformers DO engage in is crazy enough.
